  • Self-Management: effectively managing our own emotions.

  • Social Awareness: recognizing the emotions of others.

  • Relationship Management: applying our understanding of emotions to our dealings with others.

Self-Awareness

Self-Awareness is the ability to be aware of our emotions.

Emotional Awareness

Emotional Awareness is the ability to recognize our emotions, differentiate among different ones, and understand the impact of emotions. Other people might understand and experience emotions differently than you do. Also, you might trigger emotions in others, so being sensitive to this possibility will help you communicate more effectively.

Your personal guidance

Your responses indicate that you are not very aware of your emotions. You may not be able to identify the emotion you are experiencing accurately. You see emotions as a broad category and ignore their nuances and differences. You do not want to, or do not know how to, understand why you are feeling a particular emotion at a given time. You can succumb to emotion(s) and may not be aware of your reactions to these emotions. As you are not tuned into your emotions, you may not be able to use your emotions to understand yourself or guide your actions. Increasing your awareness of your emotions would help your relationships and work interactions. Understanding emotions can help guide your decisions and interactions with friends, family, colleagues, and others. This understanding can also help you predict your reactions to people and situations and help you respond better or remove yourself from situations you are not ready to handle.

Emotional self-control

Emotional Self-control is the ability to keep emotions under control. Other people might be influenced by emotions more or less than you. Understanding other individuals' levels of self-control can help you communicate with them more effectively.

Your personal guidance

Your responses indicate that your emotions can cause disruptions and that when emotions overcome you, you do not realize their impact. Stressful situations can trigger emotions you find difficult to control and lead you to react in ways you may regret later. You may not know how to calm yourself after an emotionally charged event. You may often find that your thoughts are negative and cause you distress. You can feel your emotions strongly but cannot understand what triggered those emotions. By increasing your ability to control emotions, you will be able to be objective in understanding people — especially during an emotionally charged situation or a personal emotional crisis. For example, during a heated argument or a stressful situation, increased control over emotions will help you hold back, reevaluate positions, and take appropriate steps instead of reacting in ways you will regret later on. Increased emotional self-control will help you quickly cool off from a heated argument and value the person and the relationship. Finding ways to calm yourself after an emotionally charged event and trying to understand what triggers emotions can change negative thoughts into positive ones. In addition, an insight into the root cause of emotions could help reduce stress and stay objective and bias-free.

Your desire to achieve goals and conquer challenges is unlikely to impact your relationships. However, increasing your level of drive could help you at work.
