EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE

PERSONALIZED GUIDANCE REPORT

Emotional intelligence is the capacity to recognize our feelings and those of others, motivating ourselves and managing emotions effectively in ourselves and others. This quiz focused on four areas and twelve competencies related to them. Levels of Emotional Intelligence are measured by:

  • Self-Awareness: recognizing our own emotions.

  • Self-Management: effectively managing our own emotions.

  • Social Awareness: recognizing the emotions of others.

  • Relationship Management: applying our understanding of emotions to our dealings with others.

The following graphic is based on your responses and reveals insights into your emotional intelligence.

OVERVIEW

SELF-AWARENESS

Self-Awareness is the ability to be aware of our emotions.

EMOTIONAL AWARENESS

Emotional Awareness is the ability to recognize our emotions, differentiate among different ones, and understand the impact of emotions. Other people might understand and experience emotions differently than you do. Also, you might trigger emotions in others, so being sensitive to this possibility will help you communicate more effectively.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that you are sometimes in tune with your emotions. At times you are aware of the emotion you are experiencing and can identify that emotion. Sometimes you understand that one can experience a range of emotions. You can sometimes understand why you feel a particular emotion at a given point. You may know your reactions to these emotions and realize that thoughts drive your feelings. Sometimes you use your perception of emotions to guide your actions. When interacting with others, your level of awareness helps you be in touch with your feelings sometimes but not always. Occasionally you can use this awareness to guide your interactions with others (friends, family, and colleagues), your perception of others, and your decisions. Increasing your awareness could help you predict your reactions to people or situations, which may help you respond more effectively or remove yourself from situations you are not ready to handle in personal and social settings or at Work.

SELF-MANAGEMENT

Self-Management is your ability to manage your emotions effectively.

EMOTIONAL SELF-CONTROL

Emotional Self-control is the ability to keep emotions under control. Other people might be influenced by emotions more or less than you. Understanding other individuals' levels of self-control can help you communicate with them more effectively.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that your emotions can cause disruptions and that when emotions overcome you, you do not realize their impact. Stressful situations can trigger emotions you find difficult to control and lead you to react in ways you may regret later. You may not know how to calm yourself after an emotionally charged event. You may often find that your thoughts are negative and cause you distress. You can feel your emotions strongly but cannot understand what triggered those emotions. By increasing your ability to control emotions, you will be able to be objective in understanding people — especially during an emotionally charged situation or a personal emotional crisis. For example, during a heated argument or a stressful situation, increased control over emotions will help you hold back, reevaluate positions, and take appropriate steps instead of reacting in ways you will regret later on. Increased emotional self-control will help you quickly cool off from a heated argument and value the person and the relationship. Finding ways to calm yourself after an emotionally charged event and trying to understand what triggers emotions can change negative thoughts into positive ones. In addition, an insight into the root cause of emotions could help reduce stress and stay objective and bias-free.

ACHIEVEMENT ORIENTATION

Achievement Orientation is our desire to meet or exceed a standard of excellence. Other people might seek achievement more or less than you, and understanding other individuals' achievement orientation will help you better understand how they manage themselves.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that challenges and goals drive you. You believe in yourself and your ability to meet and achieve your goals. You are self-motivated and take on new challenges once you accomplish a previous goal. You do not stop at what is required but go beyond to exceed your expectations of yourself. Your drive to achieve goals and conquer challenges will help you with your work but may impact your relationships. You can take calculated risks, set challenging goals and perform well at work, resulting in success, self-satisfaction, and recognition.

POSITIVE OUTLOOK

A Positive Outlook is an ability to look positively at situations, problems, stress, self, and others. Other people may have a more or less optimistic view than you. Understanding other individuals' approaches will help you understand their perspectives and communicate effectively.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that you tend to have a bleak view of events in life. You probably expect things to go wrong and may feel stressed. When events or people upset you, you tend to think negatively and assume the worst. Most often, people around you coax you to think positively. Increasing your positive approach would benefit your personal and work relationships. Turning a stressful message into a positive one can help you avert any negative feelings or thoughts you may experience and deal effectively with others (friends, family, and colleagues). Maintaining a positive outlook allows you to pursue your goals despite uncertainty, setbacks, and obstacles. Increasing your positive approach in times of emotional turmoil will help you stay positive and calm.

ADAPTABILITY

Adaptability is openness to change and flexibility to adapt to change. Other people might be impacted by change more or less than you. Understanding other individuals' levels of adaptability and flexibility will help you understand their perspective, empathize, and learn.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that you are sometimes open to change. Pressures and uncertainties sometimes perturb you. Sometimes you welcome change and transition smoothly by focusing on your priorities. You are sometimes adaptable and flexible, which helps with your relationships and work. This skill enables you to deal with pressures and stress effectively at times but not always. However, with increased adaptability, you can deal efficiently with changes, pressures, and stress at home, in your social circles, and at work. In addition, becoming more adaptable and flexible will help you welcome changes and new initiatives at work.

SOCIAL AWARENESS

Social Awareness is the ability to recognize emotions in others.

EMPATHY

Empathy is understanding others' feelings and perspectives as if they were yours. Other people may be more or less empathetic than you. Understanding other individuals' empathy levels will help you communicate and interact with them more effectively.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that you enjoy learning about people's concerns and truly listen to them. Your empathy helps you accurately understand their feelings, perspectives, and non-verbal signals and helps them feel heard. You can understand others' perspectives and feelings even when they aren't expressed openly or in many words. Your ability to empathize is very beneficial and a great strength while interacting with loved ones and at work. You may be the go-to person for problems when others are dealing with issues and need an empathetic ear. This skill can go a long way if you become a counselor or life coach. In addition, empathy is a great skill to have as a team member, manager, and leader.

ORGANIZATIONAL AWARENESS

Organizational Awareness is the ability to read a group's emotional dynamics and power relationships. Other people might be more or less aware of group dynamics than you. Understanding other individuals' sensitivity to emotions in a group can help you understand their perspectives and reactions, which will help you work with groups more effectively.

YOUR PERSONAL GUIDANCE

Your responses indicate that you can identify the influencers in a group. You can quickly identify the person with more power in a relationship and understand the dynamics among people. You try to connect to the group's emotions and understand the group's dynamics better. You are aware of the dynamics and relationships in a group, which is a great asset at work. For example, you can identify the power play among team members — and managers and team members. You use this understanding to identify networks, evaluate team dynamics, and improve your decisions and peer interactions. Your awareness helps you resolve conflicts and even manage others.
